A weekend in Montezuma

There’s a small town (village?) on the Nicoya peninsula of Costa Rica’s Guanacaste province called Montezuma. And by small, I mean it’s got a grand total of three roads that might comprise kilometre all told. There are likely more hotels than there are houses, but it’s not overrun by tourists — it’s as sleepy a coastal town as I’ve ever seen, certainly in Costa Rica.

We travelled there for the Día de la Madre in August 2008. It’s “Mother’s Day”, though it’s more about the Virgin Mary than it is about your mom. Still, it’s regarded as both, which is as good a reason as any to take Alex someplace nice for a break away from the condo.
