I was recently out in the United Kingdom on vacation. If you know my travel habits, you know I rarely stay in one place for long — I like to move around. (Yes, this often fuels or is fueled by my mild obsession with trains.) It means that I often pay close attention to public [...]

Late arriving in San Francisco, no thanks to an incoming snowstorm in Calgary. The deicing truck broke down mid-hose, and we had to wait 30 minutes for another one. But it gave me more time to have an interesting chat with my seatmate, who works for Wind River. Software, not the outdoors stuff.

My thighs are pink blocks of frozen flesh.
I think my eyeballs fogged over when I walked in the office.
Going home is going to be about as much fun — the non-wind chill temperature is only going up two degrees from -30 to -28. I suspect [...]

Another Christmas has come and is now waning. It’s been a long, but good day. Our child isn’t old enough yet to truly understand Christmas (although the morning nap appeared to be aborted due to the desire to be around all the unwrapping of presents), but that doesn’t mean Mom and Dad aren’t keen.
I think [...]
