Site
This is about the 18th upheaval of this site over the years, and it’s always coming closer to running without an extensive amount of extra development every time I want to make a post.
I’m now back to running WordPress, which I had used once before (but abandoned due to comment spammers). I had to come back because time simply doesn’t allow me to keep on top of things easily.
In addition to WordPress, the site runs the oh-so-awesome K2 plugin, a modified version of the Interlinks plugin (I modded it to use ‘|’ to create alternate link titles), the Smart Archives plugin, and I’m working on a partial rewrite of PhotoPress to normalize the data and make the categories (I’m now calling it tagging) to work more effectively. When the photos come back (see the above note about a plugin), I’ll also be using Lokesh Dhakar’s awesome Lightbox 2 library. Though I did tweak it to allow image scaling on smaller monitors — some my photographs are very large.
As far as my server is concerned, it’s with 1&1 hosting. So far, I’m pretty impressed with their services and toolsets. There’s an oddity right now with the K2 plug-in, but I’m loathe to suggest that it’s due to 1&1.
This site was designed with search engine optimization (SEO) in mind. I’m a marketer and I’m a technologist, so search engine marketing (SEM) fits really well into my line of work. That’s why this site is structured the way it is.
Images were created using Photoshop — a must for anyone who is serious about making images right the first time. Sure, there are a lot of shareware and freeware apps that are pretty good, but if you’re going to do it right, get the right tool.
