Hi Elaine!

Do yourself a favour: subscribe to the Tico Times. There's a lot of great information that will help you, and there's letters to the editor that'll make you feel you're not alone.

Don't worry about moving here. You'll run into ALL of those things you mentioned, and they WILL drive you crazy at first. But you'll learn how to deal with them, as does everyone down here, and once you've learned the ropes, the hardest thing about living here will be how far you are from friends and family.

And if you're living in a secured community (I assume "yes"?), you'll be protected from some of the bad stuff.

Lastly, I'd normally be proud to be found on a good search, but sadly, those aren't terms I'd hoped to rank well with. Oh well...

I'm up late with insomnia over my upcoming move to Costa Rica (Guanacaste) more nervous than ever to read more stories of robbery, racism, angry drivers, and police demanding payola (heard that one way too often, and pray it's limited to San Jose).

Thank you for your blog... I feel mightily prepared and informed.

PS: For your SEO purposes the search I used to find you ;-)

You're not "friends", my love. You're my anchors, my life lines, my centre of the universe, my reason for living. I would be lost without you, and my day is far, far poorer for each minute extra I'm not at home.

You have 2 friends right here at home. And Asia, as long as you scratch her ears.

What a great article which fully brings a person back to reality. It's terrific to read about "Paradise" and all it offers, but we never hear about "the cost", changes from what we were use to and took for granit.( sp?).

I certainly hope the gentleman that wrote the article has a better year this coming year and that the reasons that he made the move start to make sense and out balance the shortcomings.
