While I strongly sympathise with the above commenter's point of view, it just reinforces my argument. China does not change because others want China to change. China has no interest so long as its interests are being served.

This is not about government petitions. This is about people walking away from cheap clothes, cheap shoes, cheap foods. Why? All made in China. Money ultimately will force China to change. If the flow of money stops, they will have little recourse but to ask what they can do to gain back their sales.

Like I said, greed is an ugly thing. It allows us to turn a blind eye to things we would otherwise decry as being afoul.

China is the world's leading executioner and the biggest jailer of journalists and dissident bloggers. It uses torture and censors the Internet and the media.

It promised that hosting the Olympics would improve human rights:

"By allowing Beijing to host the Games you will help in the development of human rights," that was said by Liu Jingmin, vice-president of the Beijing Olympic Bid Committee, in 2001.

It has yet to happen. Is anyone going to hold China to account?

Standing up for human rights is to stand up for the values enshrined in the Olympic Charter
