I’m a web developer who crossed the line … I really wanted to direct!

A few measurements, pencil, copy of Visio (on the company laptop, admittedly), tape measure, and a lot of time and patience leads to something moderately useful.
We’ve got a first draft at a floor plan. For the basement, that is. The upstairs is another issue which we’ll deal with later. For now, we’ve got our first fish to fry. It’s not perfect, though — there’s a few things we have to take into account.
Anyhoo, here’s our first crack at the floor plan. We’re tossing this by a few people for thoughts, including the company that’s installing the radiant heating. So it’s likely to change again, but here’s what we have for now.

Any existing windows? Add new windows?
Augh! Good point! I should probably mark those as well…
Hi Geoff - regarding windows - you may want to consider an egress window for the basement, given that there is a bedroom down there (a window that you can escape from).
For your storage room - are you planning to have built in shelving in there or use something like the utility shelving from IKEA (we replaced the former with the latter a few years back and are able to store much more ’stuff’). If you are going with pre-made stuff - you may want to check the room dimensions against the size of the units you can buy - just to make the best use of space. Now is the really easy time to change walls (sort of like fixing software issues at the requirements stage before building/coding starts)
Yeah, we’re thinking of that, too. The problem is that we can’t put an egress window in the bedroom (the wall’s under an addition) and putting the bedroom pretty much anywhere else has the same effect. We’re extending two walls upstairs in a few years that effectively block windows on the top and left sides. The top-right side can have windows, as can the right side. That’s where we’re planning for them currently.
Then there’s the thought of a glass-brick floor in a couple of places, to allow natural light to come in through a skylight in the roof. But it’s only a thought right now…
hmmm….no window to escape from? How would one get out of the basement if they couldn’t use the stairs?
Alright, alright! Sheesh, I’ll put in windows!
